Revitalize Your Space: A Summer Studio Cleaning Guide for Artists

Spring cleaning in the summer? Absolutely! It doesn't matter what time of year you do it, but I highly recommend tackling it during your slow season. As an artist, summer is usually a slower period for me, making it the perfect time for a studio cleaning. No more rushing orders or running around with the kids to their activities. They sleep in while I wake up early, ready to dive deep into my neglected space that was once filled with boxes and piles.

Let me share some helpful tips for cleaning your space and making it shine!

1. LET GO OF THE OLD: When I clean my space, I make it a point to let go of all the things that no longer serve a purpose in my life. I've made several trips to the thrift store to donate items that are still in good condition but need new homes. Letting go not only creates physical space but also opens up room for fresh ideas and inspiration!

2. ORGANIZE LIKE A PRO: Take the time to go through every drawer, cabinet, and nook in your space. Trust me, I've been guilty of shoving things where they don't belong just to keep them out of sight. It's not a helpful habit, so I encourage you to make better choices than I did. Even if your space appears clean, double-check everything. Perhaps your kids, significant other, or roommate tried to help, but a second look never hurts. You'll thank yourself later!

3. REARRANGE FOR EFFICIENCY: Every once in a while, I like to rearrange a few things in my studio. This could involve moving supplies or products to create a more functional space. Not every season requires the same set of tools or materials, so it's good to adapt. Recently, I brought my Cricut machine back into my studio, and it has made a world of difference!

4. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH INSPIRATION: Take the time to put up or reorganize the art and objects that inspire you. I love shuffling around the artwork on my walls and shelves to give my space a fresh and uplifting vibe. I also keep my old planners and thank you cards that bring me joy and motivation. Sometimes, I even cut out my favorite sayings or smaller pieces to create a collage-like effect around my framed works. It's like having a vision board right in my studio, reminding me of my own mantra and keeping me focused on my creative vision.

5. CLEAN IT UP: It's time to grab the duster, broom, and mop and give your space a thorough cleaning! Move your desk, shift the shelves, and get behind everything. Remember, dust is clutter too. You'll feel an incredible sense of accomplishment and pride for taking care of your space.

Once you've completed all these steps, take a moment to rest and celebrate! Find your own way to appreciate everything you've done and everything you aspire to do. For me, this means jumping into the pool and swimming just for myself. It means admiring the beauty of nature in my backyard garden and observing the vibrant life that surrounds it.

I hope these tips help you create a clean, organized, and inspiring space that fuels your creativity and brings you joy. Happy cleaning!

Sincerely,

Sey
